Purina Mills Equine Junior® Horse Feed

Purina Mills Equine Junior® horse feed takes the guesswork out of feeding a growing foal. It was developed to give the growing horse a strong head start with the proper balance of nutrients to promote optimal growth and development. Equine Junior® horse feed is a "complete feed," which means it is an all-in-one diet hay included. Hay is not necessary, but it can be used to fulfill the nutritional needs of weanlings to two year olds. Equine Junior® horse feed assures the very best for your young horse.

Equine Junior® horse feed is the way to feed foals. It is nutritionally balanced for the special needs of growing horses. A special daily feeding chart for weanlings, yearlings and two-year-olds is supplied for your convenience.
Equine Junior® horse feed is to be fed as a complete feed because it is formulated with high quality roughage. If necessary, you may also feed with good-quality hay or pasture—up to a maximum of 1-2 pounds per day (to relieve boredom)


You may adjust the recommended amount of Equine Junior® horse feed by up to 10% to obtain desired body condition. (click here to learn about the body condition of a young foal)


Do not feed free-choice


Feed at regular times (at least twice daily). When feeding rates exceed 1% of body weight, three daily feedings is preferred


Any feed changes should be made gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days


Changes in the rate of feeding should not exceed one pound per day for each horse


Feed according to the recommended amounts shown. For more specific feeding recommendations contact a Purina Mills representative


Feed along with at least 1-1.5% of horse’s body weight of good quality hay or the equivalent in pasture to make a complete ration (hay and pasture are optional when feeding Equine Family or other complete feeds with roughage included)


Have plenty of fresh, clean water available at all times


Prevent the rapid eating by the horse of any feed stuffs


Store feed in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects


Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed to animals as it may cause illness or death


This product to be fed to the animal species as directed on the label


In addition to nutritional care and consultation, be sure to make regular veterinary checkups and farrier appointments part of your horse wellness program
